Competitors have been calling it one of the best not only on the continent, but also in the world for decades. The track has unique features in Central-Eastern Europe. It is located in a pit, which results in a large difference in level, but it is not only this that represents the serious challenge for the pilots, but also the ratio of the technical turns and the gravel surface to the asphalt. Nyirádi is one of the earliest built tracks in the country, it hosted a championship race for the first time in 1988, and in 2006, the rallycross and autocross European championship races were held for the first time. Due to the red bauxite covering the gravel parts, the track, also called "Red Katlan", has been a defining part of international and domestic motorsport for 36 years now.
The surface of the rallycross racetracks is mixed: asphalt and gravel parts alternate.
The length of the tracks is on average 1,000-1,200 meters, on which the pilots compete simultaneously and against each other in the races.
A circuit in Nyirád is 1,220 meters long, with the Joker circuit the track length changes to 1,290 meters.
During a race weekend, drivers complete free practice, three or four heats, a semi-final and a final. Five or six cars get the green signal on the starting grid at the same time and fight for the fastest time and the best position.
The categories fit together perfectly. In the Hungarian championship, starting from the junior category, we reach the Supercar category, consisting of hundreds of horsepower racing machines, which is the pinnacle of the field.
In rallycross, there are several cup series - operating in a promoter system - within the framework of which talented young people are taught and developed.

As they often say in motorsport: this is the field of "iron grasshoppers". The racing machines are either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and on the pure gravel track they really "jump" at times.
The track length is around 1000-1200 meters, the Nyirád track is specifically 1040 meters long, but its width varies, reaching up to 23 meters in some places, and only 12 meters in some places.
During a race weekend - similar to rallycross - preliminaries, semi-finals and finals alternate. Finding the fine line between precision and slippage is a real challenge. Up-to-the-knee battles are typical of the discipline, and falls are not uncommon either.
This is also the spectacle of autocross, as overtaking must be done with strength, but it also happens that competitors climb over each other.
