First World Rallycross Championship in Hungary!

On July 27-28, Nyirád will host a motorsport world championship race that has never been seen in Hungary. The field of the World Rallycross Championship is visiting Hungary for the first time. After the successful organization of the European Championship race for the past two years, the Nyirád Racing Center team has earned the opportunity to participate in the highest-level rallycross competition series.

This year, a new chapter begins in the life of the Nyirád Racing Center, as a rallycross world championship race will be organized for the first time in Hungary. In addition to Formula 1, this is the only world championship-level car series in Hungary. The organizing team was given the opportunity to organize such a large-scale event in an extremely short time. Two years after the return of the European Rallycross Championship to Nyirád after a long absence, in 2024 the highest-level rallycross series will visit the Nyirád Racing Center.

"Besides Formula 1, this is the only world championship event in motor sports in Hungary. Not only the best drivers of the World Championship, but also of the European Championship will be here on the Nyirád circuit on the last weekend of July. Spectators are expected to be able to follow the races in four categories, and thanks to the new rules, fans can see even more exciting battles between electric cars and racing machines with explosive engines and 600 horsepower. It is important for us to offer interesting and colorful programs for both the participants of the competition and interested visitors," said Orsolya Gyuris, the director of the competition.

The history of the FIA World Rallycross Championship began in 2014 with explosive engine racing machines, and then gradually opened up to electric cars. Following the technological changes in car manufacturing, in the 2021 season one of the categories consisted only of electric racing machines, and in 2022 the world championship series called WRX switched entirely to electric cars.

This year marks the beginning of a new era in the history of the World Cup. This year, the field will also be opened up for cars with internal combustion engines running on sustainable fuel. After two seasons of purely electric racing cars, this year will be a "battle of technologies", which can bring unprecedented excitement, and the Hungarian public will be able to admire it up close. The organizers are expecting the World Championship and European Championship field with a more modernized track.

"On the track, spectators can cheer on more seats than before, and we have also improved the security systems of the Nyirád Racing Center. We want to treat families with children to surprise programs this year as well. Last year, the ceremonial opening in Tapolca was a success, according to our plans, fans will be able to get closer to the drivers and racing cars at this event this year as well. Not incidentally, in addition to the World Championship race, this year will be the 10th European Championship race at the Nyirád Racing Center. We will do everything to ensure that the jubilee European Championship race and the first World Championship race are a great success, and that the spectators, the competitors and the international organizers of the series leave satisfied and with great experiences," said Orsolya Gyuris, expressing the ideas and goals of the organizers.
